A NAME

This blog was inspired from a man who truly impacted this world. A Pastor of mine, Dr. Wendell Smith had passed away in the latter part of December 2010. While a sea of some 5,000+ people began to watch his wife take the stage, we all found ourselves in complete awe as she spoke of a man with a real legacy. She said above everything else, he was a man with a good name.

A GOOD name is better than precious perfume, and the day of death better than the day of one’s birth.Eccles 7:1

This thought of a good name had me thinking. What kind of name are we truly building for ourselves and what kind of names are we surrounded by. When I step back and think about it, I am completely engulfed by a sea of individuals with a "good name". Names which I believe have the power to influence lives, changes cities, impact businesses, and so much more. This blog is not about me, but it's about those around me. This blog could be about you. I am so amazingly grateful for the people in my life and some times I wish the world would know it.

So go ahead, read on. Who knows, maybe today's blog may even be about you!

PS. Feel free to add stories about a person in the comment slots. I am hoping to make a book at the end and would love to add what other people say. Please nothing negative. I will personally delete your comment if you do so. :)

Tessa Torres

I realize it has been a while since I have done one of these but I just couldn't help but continue. I am just one of those people who hates writing when I am forced. So though it has been almost a complete year since I have written about someone who holds a great name, I am wishfully hoping to simply pick up where I left off. So if you have no idea what this is about, do yourself a favor and read the into first before you continue reading.

Tessa, a roommate of roommates. I can not tell you how grateful I am to be living with this girl. She is a dream come true. Honestly, she is. Our friendship all started as a blind date.... seriously it did. A little over a year ago I met a guy named Roman from United Generation who told me about this girl named Tessa. He raved about how amazing she was and how we would be perfect friends. So taking a leap of faith I randomly texted this girl and asked if she would have coffee with me at the local Starbucks on the top of Queen Anne. I would have never imagined what would have become of that simple coffee date.

From the moment I met her, I knew she was someone special. She was the definition of JOY. It only takes a split second to realize the beauty which is striking not just on the outside but also the inside as well. In fact, I would even go as far as to say the inside is more captivating then anything. Roman was completely right, we would turn out to be great friends.

Here we are today living life together and I am honestly amazed by her. Not once have I had a fight with her. She is seriously like Jesus. I tell her this all the time but is true... some times she is so much like Jesus, she makes me feel like the Devil himself. haha. Well not exactly, but kinda. The beautiful part is the process of getting to watch Jesus change and shape her life. Because when she first started out she just was a casual attender at GC, she would come to my small group every week on campus saying "Kaila, that was exactly what was on my heart". AND NOW LOOK AT HER. A powerful woman of God who I get to do ministry WITH. Every day I get so excited to pastor this floor along with her. It is honestly as if this floor of our campus has two pastors on it. She has a true love for people and has an amazing grace to preach about purity and to see breakthrough of that on the lives of young college woman. She is confident in who God has called her to be, God has given her a voice, she has wisdom beyond her years and I am honestly just honored to live with someone like her. Some times it is funny how similar we are and I love it. We are kindred spirits. Here for each other when we need it. Honestly, I can not wait to see what is before her in these coming years. All I do know is that she is called to not live a normal life but to change lives one person at a time. I love this girl so much and am so proud of her and proud to be called her friend.
